Diagnostics

New Hope Animal Hospital is proud to offer several in-house diagnostic tests. These tests significantly reduce the amount of time spent waiting on results. In turn, this means less time before we can begin accurately and appropriately treating your beloved pets! In some instances, we also partner with outside laboratories where we can send samples if more in-depth results are needed. In-house we can provide many essential laboratory services, endoscopy, digital radiography, quick scan ultrasound, diagnostic ultrasound, and other imaging procedures.

ENDOSCOPY

Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that allows our vet to look inside an organ or cavity to clearly see and gain diagnostic information. In some cases, we will also biopsy a small piece of tissue in order to run tests and uncover additional information that is not readily apparent while viewing the area. One of the most common endoscopic procedures is gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy; however, we also offer rhinoscopy, otoscopy, laparoscopic biopsies, esophagoscopy, and urethroscopy, to name a few. In addition to providing the ability to take a closer look inside your pet’s body, endoscopy also useful in cases of stone removal, feeding tube placement, and removal of foreign bodies.

DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHY

With digital radiography, we can more quickly and effectively take x-ray images than ever before. Traditional radiography with film took longer, and if we didn’t get quite what we were looking for we’d have to start over – not fun for the pets, and time-consuming overall. Digital radiography, however, allows us to view the images right away on a computer or tablet and lets us adjust the image for more precise viewing if necessary. This not only allows us to treat your pet faster but will enable us to see more patients throughout the day, which equates to more availability when you call to make an appointment.

ULTRASOUNDS

Ultrasounds are beneficial for many reasons and are sometimes used in conjunction with radiographs for a complete picture. Diagnostic ultrasounds are especially helpful in locating tumors or ingested materials because they allow the technician to differentiate tissue, bone, and fluid. Quick scan ultrasounds can save a pet’s life by enabling us to locate fluid buildup around the heart, lungs, and other organs in the event of a traumatic incident. Together with blood-work, x-rays, and other imaging procedures, ultrasounds are quickly becoming an integral part of caring for your pets and ensuring they get the quickest, most appropriate care.

LABORATORY SERVICES

In addition to the in-house imaging services we offer, we also have laboratory capabilities to test for a wide array of illnesses and conditions. We are able to draw blood or collect urine and fecal samples to check for common things, including:

  • Cysts
  • Parasites
  • Bacterial infections
  • Kidney disease
  • Hemoglobin concentration
  • Red blood cell count
  • White blood cell count
  • Platelet count

If for some reason, we need more in-depth information about a sample, we partner with several outside labs that can quickly test the samples and provide more details.
